I haven't experienced it that way but I have smelled gas when starting the car, stopping it, and then re-starting it (like if moving the car then moving it back) but the gas smell is outside the car not inside. Not sure if it's coming out of the exhaust pipe or the engine bay - haven't really tried to investigate.
