WebBy “law and gospel” I refer to the debate between those of us who hold to the historic and confessional distinction between those places in Scripture where God commands and those places where he promises. Historically, Protestants have described these two ways of speaking in Scripture as “law” and “gospel.” The Three Uses Of The Law WebOne of my favorite examples is when he once said, "All callings are honorable before God." He was resisting the medieval notion that only priests, monks and nuns had a calling. He was insisting every Christian occupation is a calling. He said all callings are honorable before God "with the possible exceptions of burglary and prostitution."
